dieing coral????

    This is a 75gal, 10gal sump with coral life skimmer.
    cal-440
    alk- 2.2
    ph and kh is 8
    NO2=0
    ammonia= 0
    no3= 5 maybe less
    phosphate=0
    salt= 1.023

    My green brain coral and acans arnt looking good and i thank the first stage of dieing. The brain opens big and eats shrimp and target feed it coral-vite and microvert a few times a week. but the center seems to fading away. The acans stated off realy good and with in the past 48 hours whent form big and open to like thare turning inside out. Nothing has changed in the thank and i also have dunkans, shrooms, and pyolps and they all look fine. i'm going to post some before and now pics see if they help. Thank you for any help. I love these guys and don't want to lose them.

    In addition to what Corailline said:


    What units? If meq/l that is still only 6.6 dkh, that is too low


    You just said alk is 2.2, which is it? kh is a measure of alk.


    Too low, needs to be about 1.026. However, make sure you are testing with a calibrated refractometer. Inverts are very sensitive to salinity, this is one of the most important metrics for reef tanks.

    i'll try and answer thes all for you. the alk test kits shows 2.2 the kh test kit says 8... i run 2 175 MH and 4 HO t5s. not sure on watts for the t5s.

    ok the alk is milli per liter. kh is in dkh. i have two difrent test kits. and here are the pics.

    Even though I would say for a 75 gallon tank that is not a ton of light, but I would still move them down if possible or in less direct lighting.

    I'd say your corals aren't liking the light, IMO both those types of LPS like lower light, try getting them in the shade, or outer edge of your tank.

    Also if you have clownfish, they have been known to try and steal food, and will stick their heads into the mouths of brains and scolys, ime, I've never seen them do an acan, but I'm sure they could. Also if you have shrimp, they are the worst for LPS, especially chalices, acans, brains, and scolys, they steal food, and can pick and really irritate the flesh.

    well I droped them to the bottom of the tank. And i'll cut back on the feeding and we'll see what happends. i'll post in a day or two
