Just read the other posts here. They're all satisfied with the way they mix; any method will work.

Starfish you have been given great advise from some of the best people here, listen to them. get a five gallon bucket or larger and a small pump. and follow the above advice.

I use instant ocean to and like others i haven't had a problem yet. I mix it in a 2 gal bucket [1 cup of salt to 2 gal of water]. I stir it well and then dump it baack and forth from the 2 gal bucket to a 5 gal bucket a few times. This usally does the trick for me. Don't give up just try mixxing different ways till you find something that works for you.

your biggest problem is that your using instant ocean. This is about the worst salt there is. The only time you should use instant ocean is if your the manager of red lobster and your using it for the lobster tank. Try a better quality mix (tropic marin, oceanic, h20 ocean) and mix it with a powerhead overnight. Good luck......

Whenever I was using Instant Ocean, I always put about 4 gals into a 5 gal bucket with a pump going and then added a half cup at a time. I would wait about 5min after it was completely dissolved to add the next half cup. Always worked for me. However, I have since switched to ESV B-Ionic mix. It's a 4 part mix and man is it awesome. I've yet to find a salt that dissolves as fast and has a good of params as far as Ca, Mg, and Alk after mixing.
