i've seen fake anems at petco for 20$ or so? is that what u mean? they look pretty real underwater, you never know, the clowns might take to it but i doubt you'd see the really fascinating behavior like feeding/cleaning that the clowns are capable of,
i got my clowns a few months before my anem and they were determined to host something and irrtated the heck out of a big torch coral till they got the anem

you dont have to have a anemone for clowns, my old pair hosted my overflow box when it was a fowlr and refused to host in the bta for nearly 9 months after I introduced one

If you're so bent on getting an anemone, why not just pay $25 for a seabe (learn about them first) and do that? Why spend $20 on a fake one when your chances of them hosting it will be even slimmer? Just seems to make more sense to get a real one.

And just for the record if they're tank bred, good luck, some do, some don't. I've had one for a year that does not care the least about it's anemone. I have another tank with a wild caught clarkii that can't live without it though.

I have picasso and a rose bubble tip. The clowns have nothing to do with the anemone or any corals in my tank. So dont expect that it will host anything. In my old tank I had a clarki clown and a sebbae (SP?) and it had nothing to do with that either...instead it hosted my anthelia

One thing people dont remember when they get an anemone is that it will go where IT wants to go. So you might be tearing apart your rock to find it so that you can feed it. My rose BTA attached itself to one rock on the day I introduced it and has stayed there so far. However I did have to rearrange the rock so I can get to it easier to feed it krill. Still in a place that I can not readily see it though!

It truly is hit or miss. Your best luck is buying a clown and anemone in the LFS that are already hosting. Make sure you have the proper lighting first.

You also have to be very careful with your power heads and filters. I used to run a HOB Penguin filter. One day I came home and found the anemone sucked into the input. It took forever to pull the tentacles out of the input grate but it lived and is thriving today.
