Is it just me or are all the dosing pumps way overpriced?
Here's a DIY dosing system using the toms' aqualifter.

The only problem I see is with the dosing rate. I mean the pump is cool... but you have to valve down the dose and those drip regulators can get clogged.

It's simple... and I really love the price... no problems there... I just think it would require a lot of diligence to make sure you are always getting an accurate dose. The beauty with dosing pumps is that it is a set rate and a slow one at that

On a side note... what are aqua lifter pumps? They are positive displacement right... they can pump air???

Yeah, they're basically using a Toms' aqualifter pumps to push the water into a gang valve that normally controls air from an air pump. They tune it down to a drip to try to simulate a dosing pump.
Very cheap to make compared to all the expensive dosing pumps.
He pumps from a pretty small container that way if there is ever a malfunction it can never pump way too much and kill your tank.(good idea with either pump)

Also there are check valves to prevent back siphon.

I like it. Just would recommend a check valve to prevent back siphon.
