Well as christmas rolls around its time to think of a present for my gf.she pulled through on my bday with an apex controller so I think she deserves something special.she's nagged me about wanting a jelly tank since we saw them in the local waters, so this is a seriously considered idea.it would be a (roughly)24 inch kreisel tank.1 ft deep.many 18 inches.I had several ideas as to how to go about this but I've settled on the simplest idea.a kreisel tank inside of a rectangle tank so to speak.I can get afew different types of jellies as well as comb "jelleys".I know about their care and feeding habbits and im confident I can keep them happily..to give it the circular look id just put a circular hole in a cabinet so it cover the rectangular part of the tank leaving just the circle visible.

My projects tend to move slow seeing as I only have afew hours a week to work on themso if this happens ill be starting it soon.

My questions are pertaining to the acrylic. What kind should I use?lexan or standard acrylic ?or what? What thickness would I need to make the rectangle tank?

If this goes through ill post pics in a build thread :)

It all depends on how many gallons you going to make this tank... It seems to be about 15 gallons, ish... So I'd use regular acrylic.... Thickness I have not a clue... Shouldn't be to thick....
What do you exactly need to keep jellies? I have a 35 hex tank that is lying around that vie been thinking of either a sea horse tank again or trying my hand at jellies!
    Thanks, David

I imagine its doable in a hex the biggest thing is to get the current right ask the jellies are gently swirled and they can't get sucked into power headland pumps.some are photosynthetic.so lighting may be a thought.they eat small food phyto rotifiers ect.depends what species you intend to keep.

Are you building the entire tank from scratch or just the curved pieces in the corners? I'm actually debating about getting jellies as well and I picked up this book from amazon and it has a ton of helpful info:

1/4" thick acrylic will be best to hold water, no power heads at all if your going to do a jelly only i recommend flow by bubbles.. BUT too much bubbles will cause the jellies to be unable to move about on their own.

I want one like this but don't want to buy it just yet

With it just being 15gal 1/4 inch cell cast acrylic would be good. IPS weld on #16 for gluing acrylic.

That one in the link is similar to my original design and I will be doing one like it if this one works out.I will be bubble free in my design.ill me using a moderately modded mj400 for circulation and ill haveto come up with what return pump ill ne using

Ok 1/4 inch it is.my concern is because the rectangle tank will be roughly 36wide by 27 tall to allow for room for maintenance. Mabe a euro brace would help.I've done afew smaller projects with acrylic so im pretty comfortable working with it and gluing it.still have alittle more then half a can of Weldon 16 from my past ventures :)

I've read that for most applications below like 40 gallons Weldon 4 is good enough and to use 16 if you made a boo boo and had a gap issue.

I believe 3/4 are thinner and use capillary action better but im not sure on that. Im mostly concerned if 1/4in is thick enough to span the width with out bowing.
