I have done some research but have yet to come up with an actual answer. On last weeks Tanked show and previous shows they have used what looks to be an epoxy to coat any number of items they want to add to a tank to give it the custom look. WHAT DO THEY USE?????????? I really want to paint a couple things and add them to the tank for a custom look but I can not figure out what to coat them with after painting to prevent killing everything in the tank.

Anyone know or even better would be has anyone tried something similar?

I'm not sure what they use. Remember though, they are building fish only tanks, not reef tanks. There is a big difference. A lot of reef organisms are much, much more sensitive to just about everything, than fish. That said, if you can find a clear epoxy paint, it should be reef safe once cured.

Its a marine grade epoxy meaning that it is designed not to wither way over exetened periods of time underwater.

Be careful too, as just because its coated in a chemical to keep it together doesn't mean that the actual product itself will hold up very long underwater. The Epoxy is more designed to seal in paint and other chemicals to keep them from leaking into the tank

My tank is a fish only tank so corals etc are not an issue. I have background for a fresh water aquarium that I would like to put colors other than what you can get by mixing drylock.

SOOOOO can you paint something that you want to add to an aquarium and coat it in the marine grade epoxy to keep it from leaking the paint?

I have called my LFS and they did now know what could be used. Does anyone know the name of the epoxy or an epoxy that would be safe to use?

My plan is to create a background and instead of coating it in cement I would paint it then coat it in the epoxy.

    Thank You
