    Well, that depends on the demand of the tank. Sea-Lab states that the blocks dissolve at the rate elements are needed. I was a little skeptical of this when I first saw them, however, after talking with someone who actually uses them and the success she had I decided to try them. My tank uses (3 for my 55 gal.) in about 10 days. When they are almost gone the cal drops about 20 ppm and you just add three more. They give guide lines as to how many to use. There have been times the blocks were almost gone and every time I checked the cal was holding at 500 so I just let it go and I think it took 14-18 days before I added more. As I understand it, the more the tank is in balance the more stable and able to maintain the parameters become.

    wow, i might venture into using those products.. I seen some at my LFS.. you use the small blocks? they are about the size of 3/4"x3/4" ?
