+1 here. "don't dose what you cannot test for" and I have read several articles disputing that there is any benefit to dosing Iodine and other 'snake oils'.

I dose Iodide lots of soft corals. I test every 3 days. I dose 5 ml a day and my reading is still .00, havent got it to .06 as "required". My shrimp are molting about every 3 or 4 months. The emrald crabs havent seen where they have yet.

I dose iodine at 1 teaspoon per month in my 65......I have never had any issues and have been doing this since the tank was new almost a year ago. My LPS and Leathers are healthy, I did lose a cerinth snail but not sure what cuased it as I added 2 new ones a month ago at the same time and the one alive is doing ok........my cleaner shrimp are very healthy and molt every 2-3 months, my peppermint shrimp are healthy
I do 10% water changes 2 times per month, I skim heavy though and use carbon 2 weeks per month changeing the carbon each week.

Respectfully.........I do not believe any salt mix can adequately sustain Iodine in the amount needed for tanks requiring it. If someone does monthly water changes, depending also on how much they change out, the slight amount of Iodine in a few gallons of new water will not significantly raise the Iodine to bring it to proper saturation usable by the creatures requiring it and sustain this for a month until the next change. Smaller weekly changes will do even less. To further prove this, if water changes could raise Iodine levels to any significance, everyone should be testing for Iodine. Is everyone? No, hardly anyone is. Who mixes a batch of water and then tests their tank for Iodine and the batch to make sure they aren't overdosing?
To burst a myth believed by many, water changes have their place but in no way contribute to over all water quality as much as the biological filtration of the tank and sustaining the elements required by supplementation when needed.

I think you meant to say; "what you don't test for", Iodine can be tested for.

for testing, test 50 times twice a month, throw out any outliers, then draw a median value for the closets 13. Only way to be sure without Voodoo on those tests.
