hey reefers. i know ALK and CA has to be dose daily but my tank takes up ALOT of mg. And people say Mg doesnt have to be dosed as much..

Tested with Elo's Test kit/ bought 2 months ago

I've been dosing 8.3ml alk, 3.3ml Ca, and 3.3ml of Mg, DAILY. i just dosed 10ml of Mg and steadily raise to where i need it.

My params are 9 Dkh / 450Ca/ and 1150 Mg

i just tested Mg and its at 1150, i calculated all the big 3 acouple weeks ago and dosed accordingly, and my Mg was steady at 1350. so now something's been taking up all the Mg.

    my Tank,

    18G tank/12g sump = 30 g total

SPS tank with very little lps and zoas

    1 6line wrasse
    2 False Perc clowns
    good amount of CuC
    Cheato's

Also im getting small dots of Coraline Growth on the back of the tank. and some showing on the rocks, and majority of my rocks has Green Coraline, (not algae)

nothing "has" to be dosed daily, that is incorrect.

Dosing should occur as needed based on what you test for. Granted most people dont test daily but what they do is have expereince & intimate knowledge of thier tank based on historic data and knowledge,

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I would re-check your mag test or have someone else do a double check.

What brand of salt mix are you using?

My Parts A/B has mag in them. I know some salts have lower values for mg and some higher. I get a much higher value after I do a water change with reef crystal than I do when I do a water change with I/O.

The more stable and consistant your levels are, the happier your corals. If you calculate how much your tank uses per day, then yes, you should dose daily - for optimum results. Once you are positive it is working then you should test more likely weekly to keep things on track and make minor adjustments if necessary (e.g. when corals grow larger and use more). It is even more optimal to get a dosing pump and dose on the hourly (drip) range.

Anyway... as I said, consistant is optimal. If you are already doing the Ca and Alk, will it really take that much more time to do the mag as well? ;D By the way (in case you didn't already know), don't let that Ca and Alk mix! Separate times of the day would be best. But remember to let one get all mixed in before dosing the other. Sorry if you already knew that. Better to be double informed than not at all, right?

I use reef crystal as well. Make sure you mix up the bag well! Heavier components will sink to the bottom, resulting in varying levels. I noticed changes my mag levels before I started doing this.
