I set up my sump/tank, and wanted to fill everything with water to check for leaks and see how it would all work before plubing it in for good. So I have a 54GL corner tank with corner overflow. I ordered the mega flow overflow kit and installed it to the directions specs.

Now the overflow doesnt make any noises as it flows over from the DT nor does the sump as water enters it (I have the proflex model 1 sump). My issue is I can hear water splashing/running more of a running sound, in the flex hose just as it exits the bulkhead for the drain? I've searched and looked at just about every issue people are having with drain noises.

The most common thing I see is people saying to make more holes or make it larger on the drain up top. I just want to see if thats my issue before I go cutting it and it not be an air problem. I do have a valve on the return from the pump. Almost closed is about the same as WAO, its just louder WAO

It looks as though the overflows return is going out of the picture, not to the filter socks?

Thats how long the hose is? It goes into the sump right at a 90 that is pretty much in between the two filter socks.

Why are you running so much drain hose? It should be running straight down into the fitting on the sump, and BTW, I would lose the 90* elbow and go straight down.

Are you running a single drain hose and splitting it? I see two filter socks. Unless you have two drains, just use one sock and one hose.

That's the length that came with kit, I can just put flex hose and take off the 90 if it you think it should run straight into the sump. I just have a single drain but it comes into a a piece of 1inch pvc in a cylinder and the water comes back up and flows over the socks then into the other chambers

Just cut the hose off...no need to buy a new one. To make it fit into the sump lid, you can put a short piece of PVC into the drain hose and put a hose clamp on it. Dip the hose into some really hot water (2.5 - 3 mins in the microwave) to soften it before you shove the PVC into it.

So you think the running issue is from the hose length coupled with the 90 fitting. And with it shorter and straight in, it will go away? Thanks for the help

There could still be a problem, but either way, the straight short run is the right way to go. If that doesn't fix it, we'll troubleshoot it some more.

Sound like a plan, I'll stop by HD and grab some a fitting and see how it works after that....Thanks again for the help!

What does your standpipe look like inside the overflow box? If you are not getting the proper water/air mixture you will not have a nice smooth laminar flow in the hose to the sump causing eddies and back currents which lead to noise. When you have the proper mix you should have a full pipe or hose with no bubbles or sound and you should be able to open the valve on the return pump much more to match the overflow rate. Its really the return pump that governs the flow once things are balanced out right.

I also agree with keeping the plumbing as short as possible with as few fittings and restrictions as you can. You want a full pipe with smooth flow and nothing to impede it.
