Has anyone drilled Pukani rock? That stuff looks AWESOME but seems pretty fragile and I can see a bit just splitting the whole rock instead of drilling a hole. I picked up a masonry bit and plan on using plastic coat hangers and epoxy to aquascape my tank tomorrow. I don't have a hammer drill, just a regular and impact driver.

Any one with some experience here working with this type of rock?

I drilled 1/2" holes in it no problem with a masonry bit, and a regular battery drill(with clutch). The clutch will help not snap pieces when the bit gets hung up. It is somewhat fragile, but easy enough to drill. I used 3/8" nylon threaded rod attached at the bottom to 3/8" lexan(acrylic), and nylon nuts.

I just drilled some marco (Looks similar). I tried to use the holes already in the rock and stay where it was thicker. After a couple holes you will get the hang of it. If i did it again i would try hydraulic cement.

For what it's worth, Marco and Pukani rock is night and day from what I have ordered. Drilling was easier on the Marco than the Pukani.

I was so tempted to get Marco rock (of even reefcleaners), but decided on 50lbs of Pukani and I'm so glad I did. It looks like it will be perfect for my little 46 bow. This stuff is so light, but was a little worried about it splitting when I drilled. Good to hear that it's not that bad. A piece of my old lace rock that's half the size weights twice as much as the Pukani!

I'll take some tomorrow when I can lay them all out. There is a nice sized dried up crap in one of the rocks and plenty of other old organic matter. Should be perfect for my tank still early in the cycle stage.
