I got my 45mm diamond tipped drill bit in the mail today. I am going to install two overflows on my 125. I am going to use durso standpipes through the back of the tank near the bottum. I am still undecided on whether to go with 1 big overflow in the center or two overflows with one in each corner. Comments suggestions opinions please. The durso standpipe website suggests against two overflows side by side. Not sure why. Thanks everybody!

If it were me setting up a tank of that size I would most likely do an overflow on both sides with 2 or 3 return lines. I'm not familiar with the durso standpipes.

2 or 3 return lines...wouldnt that require 2 or more pumps? Should I go with 1 big pump or 2 smaller pumps?

You do not "need" two return pumps. You can just T off the return line from your pump. Most people do it this way. Very few run a separate pump for each return.

You need 2 overflows at 1" minimum. IMO I would go 1 1/4" on each one. Less gurgling noises when draining. If It's too much you can always cut it back with ball valves. As for the return if the pump is strong enough, you only need one. Again IMO on the return 1" if going to one pipe in the tank and 1" going to 3/4" for 2 pipes.

Avoid as many 90 degrees as possible. On my setup I used flexible PVC aka SpaFlex. If you want check out my 90gal thread. Everything was documented in detail.

Best if luck. Any questions just ask away.

If you are splitting return flows, use Y's as opposed to tees. And as mentioned, minimize the amount of fittings.

imo you should do a Bean Animal setup. From what I've read, it's the quietest and safest approach.

I drilled my tank without incident! In other words I didnt crack my tank! It was breeze. Just take it slow and no problems. I have one in each corner. Thanks for all the info but I think I still will go with the durso standpipes. Hoping I can tweak them just right to keep it quiet.
