How long does it take to somewhat kill everything on Live Rock by drying them under the sun?

Somewhat kill everything? Couple of weeks most likely. If your worried about things surviving boil your rocks. If you boil the rocks outside you will keep anyone living in your house much happier with you.

Yup, I've been trying to find cheap dry rocks, but the cheapest would be BRS saver rock for $2.49/lbs. I need about 150 to 180 lbs. I have found the cheapest live rock in my area which is $1.50/lbs. I was thinking to dry them out. Yeah, I heard about 2 to 3 weeks would be good.

Hmmmm, boiling them? then I would need huge pot. ;D

nor to big just out them in the sun in a back tub and close it off with a lid, it get hot and will kill off everything.

you can also bleach it to kill everything wont take as long, just give it 3 day period in bleach water rinse, let dry for 3 days, repeat one or two more times and bam nice and clean ;D

I really wish that I know that they don't have pests, that would be nice to just put them all in there and help the cycling. But I am too concerned about those story pests issues. Basically just to make sure they're not there.

rc... why put them in tub? i was thinking just lay them out straight under the sun since we have sun all day here in so-cal. Yeah, I heard about them with bleach. I am a little afraid the bleach will stay. But yeah, I guess it will evaporate ;D

a lot of people use muriatic acid bath for the same purpose. Do a search and there should be a ton of threads with the proper procedure.

I like the bleach water idea. I recently pulled a rock from my tank that had some negative hitchhikers on it. I'm going to give that a try since I don't think I can get away with boiling it.
