Just curious, how long have you had your DSB running without changing anything? I have a 6-7" DSB/fuge that has been running for almost 3 yrs now and in combination with my skimmer, it does it's job well for my system. However I do notice the sand is turning brown/black a few inches down, been like this for over a year which I think is normal, just wanted to get some input on what others are experiencing with theirs older DSB.

My tank has been running over 10 years with a pleum and dsb. It's changed from fo to fowlr to reef over the years but have never touched the sand. I only recently found out people seem to think there prone to crashing.

I read that a few places too, but similar to your experience, I know someone that has been running a 55g fuge with a 6" DSB for about 7 years with no issues.

I haven't tested my parms in months but I'm sure my nitrates and phosphates are still undetectable, just want to hear other's experience with their fuge and plan ahead before it becomes an issue.
