I am just starting to build a 29 gallon salt tank and wanting to build a reef in it. would a 130 watt compact Fluorescent light fixture be enough for corals and such?

Depends on what type of corals... I know noone likes the watt's per gallon rule.... But it comes out to about 4.48 watts per gallon... I have luck keeping what I keep with compact flourescent because I have 13 watts per gallon...

alrighty thank you ill just go a little different route then. i want a salt tank but spend less then four hundred dollars. I wanna spend alot of the money on the lighting cuz its the most important thing right? i think i might go with a ten gallon or 20 gallon so i can have a little more money left

If you could fit that light over a 10 gallon that tank would scream...Although a 20 would give you more room for few a fish.... I can keep almost anything I want in mine with in reason.. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask....

You could do a bunch of corals with a 20 gallon.. Thats the route I'd go....

that light will be fine for all leathers,Zoa's, Polyps, mushrooms and some LPS and maybe some Monty's if kept up high. Even on a 29 gallon it would work just fine as long as you kept the LPS and Monty's on top. I have a 29 gallon which I was using a 24" Dual satellite which is the same wattage as the 30" on it with great success. even if you go to a smaller tank you still will not be able to keep some corals
