    Hi,

What size tank do flame and coral beauty angels require? I've read and heard such differing views. Would a 37 gallon, with only a clown and damsel, be too small? Also, how "old" (established) should a tank be before introducing an angel? I've read about how they graze on the live rock as part of their diet.

    Thank you!!

the coral beauty, i'm pretty sure, is suggested for no less than a 30 gal. they do stay relatively small (mine seems to be full grown at about 4 inches. i'd say your tank would be ok for him. they do graze a little on live rock but mine readily eats anything i put into the tank. they take meat and veggies enthusiastically. i've had my beauty since start up without issue, fat and happy.

30 gallons is the minimum, but a 55 would be a much better setup for one. I have a coral beauty in my 125 and he is all over the place, and personally after having one for a few weeks wouldn't want to see one in anything less than a 4' tank.

a 30 gallon tank is min and would do just fine as long as you dont have a huge bio load!

Just make sure to only have 1 pygmy angel in the tank.

They are known to be aggro towards other pygmy angels.

I had a caribbean pygmy angel in my 35g. It was very happy, but that angel is about half if not only a third the size of a flame or a coral beauty.

I'll research the caribbean pygmy. Thanks for the suggestion!

I don't think I will overload my system. If I get a dwarf angel then I plan on having only the three fish. When I want more, I'll upgrade to a bigger tank!! :)

I have a pygmy angel in a 46, who does great. Some angels like to snack on corals, though. Mine had never touched any of my corals until I got a bubble coral - it was apparently very tasty. :( It's kind of a hit and miss thing.

I really like the angels, though. My worst fish loss was a coral beauty that jumped out - I really liked that fish!
