Is anyone using an EHEIM 1262 pump externally? Is it noisy? How do you like using it externally?

I want to build an acrylic sump and use my 1262 externally to allow for more space in my stand. My current sump is a 30G. I plan on building my new sump with the dimension 26x14x16. With a 10"x14" skimmer section, 3" for bubble trap baffles, 8" chamber for rock, and the rest is for the return pump chamber/section.

Hmm trying to remember what Eheim was on my PM calcium reactor. I think it was a smaller one. It was quiet for what it is worth. My hunch is you will be fine if you mount it level so it does not vibrate a lot. Perhaps a mousepad under it if needed too.

My main concern is a leak. I figured on needing to put the pump on a few mouse pads for vibrations, but leaking and a strong hum are what I fear.

I have a pair of 1250's on my calcium reactors. To be honest, I was not sure at first they were running. Dead quiet.

Can you post a photo of how the 1250 is hooked up to the reactor? This way I can get an idea of how I should go about plumbing it. Any salt creep from the seams?

So why do you need to run it externally? You are using a smaller tank but still have a return big enough for the pump. So why must it go outside if you want more room in your stand?

I like having a little extra water in the return section for just in case I am gone when the ATO runs dry. Just one of those piece of mind things.

Cool. Just keep in mind if you hard plumb it vibrations will transfer to the sump. Tubing will isolate it a bit but not as sturdy.
