    i guess i should clarify. mine does not gradually change from 5 to 8. it jumps back and forth and anywhere in between while i am watching it. it will go from 5.3 to 6.2 to 7.7 to 8.3 in the span of 2 seconds and then start back down. it repeats this process on random readings the entire time i have the probe submerged.

    could the current mess with it that much?

    Yes, current is a problem for most of the probes.


    To find out if it is current, you could place a shield around the probe which extends about an inch past the end of the probe... for example, use an old 35 mm film canister or pill bottle, cleaned, drill a hole in the bottom of the bottle and slide it over the probe... You will have to work the air out of the shield, (a small vent hole on the top of the shield would help)... if your pH stabilizes then the current flow is your issue...

    Stray voltage is causing your ph flucuations. I had the same happen to me once. After placing a Ground Probe it started working great.

    i have been anticipating installing a ground probe, i guess i will this weekend. my LFS is only open to the public for 3 hours on friday and saturday but i trust their advice so i will wait.
