ask your boss if he/she used copper meds and go ahead and get some cuprisorb and start using it just in-case. they are very tiny beads that will absorb any copper in the tank. like I said, it should come with a filter bag. you put that into one section of the emperor and run it until the cuprisorb changes color from the gold/yellow that it's starts at to purple. it'll take a long time and you don't have to use the whole bottle at once. I would do that while you are cycling before you add inverts cool that you added your LR & LS what is your SG at?(specific gravity or salt level)

yes that is correct except you really don't want to use tap water. really. it's got stuff in it that is NO good for saltwater or freshwater tanks. If you can't afford an ro/di filter right now, go to a store that sells ro water by the gallon. that again will be cheaper in the long run if you invest in an ro/do filter ro/di=reverse osmosis/de-ionized which means all the bad stuff has been taken out and it's safe for aquariums

too high as in what? what was the reading?:)

the reading 1.028 it should read between 1.020 and 1.023...is that correct? as for tap water that is what i used to start the cycle the lfs told me to use stress coat a cap full for every 5 gallons + 2 1/2 of salt. i followed their instructions and my salt is way to high maybe my cup was to big.

they are correct about the salt level, yes 1.020-1.023 for fish only tanks, if you're going to be putting corals you want a steady 1.024. I wouldn't use stress coat in a saltwater tank. You're going to need to have top off water, from evaporation, so be prepared and get ya a few gallons of ro water. your lfs should sell it too. also, leave your lights off during the cycle and throw in a piece of raw peeled shrimp, yes the kind you eat. it'll help get the cycle going.
