I have a 55 gal fish only (for now) with a 29 gal sump with an Algae Turf Scrubber. I kept my HOB Reef Octopus skimmer, and it's been filling the cup up nicely. Am I ok for now with weekly 5 gallon water changes?

Personally, I'd keep a close eye on nutrient levels and determine from there how much/often water changes need to be done. Weekly water changes are a leftover ritual from the days before skimmers and turf scrubbers. :)

I have a 75g with 20 sump, ATS & skimmer. With stable tank parameters I am not as religious to water changes as many are. Once I SG start to drop a little I top off with some saltwater instead of RO to bring it back in line, and do a 5-10 gal wc around monthly.

Ok cool, I have not seen very many people with ATS systems. I do have a reef octopus hob skimmer, I want to incorporate into my sump, but the pvc piping on it isn't long enough. I was going to attempt to make the connections longer to fit it. Should I consider looking at a larger skimmer? I'm not entirely sure how many gallons my'n is rated for, but it has been doing a good job hanging on my tank.

Personally if it were me I would move to a sump style skimmer vs putting a HoB in the sump area. You simply get more bang for the buck, and less worry for a leak, overflow or whatever else can murphy you. You already have a reef octo so I'm sure you know for the price the brand speaks for itself. A sump model would server you very well. My skimmer is a little psk-75 that I found on CL for like either $30-50 I forget. For the price it was too good to not pick up. Not the greatest but it fits the bill.

I had a prizm hob skimmer-not the best but worked. Now I have a aqua remora Pro skimmer its good did the job well. I just got a asm g2 or maybe 3 I have to look. But its huge!!! Its hard to believe that plastic costs so much but I expect a lot from it. The previous owner had nothing but praise so did the reviews online.

If you have to do another sump so you can have an insump skimmer I think you should do it.
