Hey guys. I have a clownfish that I've had for a few days now. He's eating just fine but he seems to be a little bloated. I haven't had saltwater tanks in a long time.

Can epsom salt be used to treat the constipation as it does in freshwater fish ?

    Welcome to 3Reef.

No, Epsom salts do not work on marine fish in the same manner. Magnesium Sulphate is a major portion of the salts already in saltwater.

Yeah. He's already been QTed and treated. He's not pooping, that I've seen. His anus is slightly extended which is why I think he's just constipated.

With Cichlids these are the same symptoms that would be treated with epsom salt, which is used as a laxative.

I'm sorry that I don't know the right answer....

We had a 6 line wrasse go through a simular event, as it kept eating we just watched it, after a couple of days it began to poop out shrimp legs and was fine after that.... What we are not sure of is if it ate the shrimp live or this was the result of just cleaning up the tank...

Frozen brine shrimp and another frozen food that's held together with gel. I can't remember the name of it off hand. It's green and has vitamin c in it.

The frozen brine shrimp cube is cut into 4 pieces and one piece is fed in the morning. Every other day I'll feed them the other food in the evening.
