    hey guys im helping my friend set up a saltwater section in his pet store, he bought a few bags of this stuff called marine sand by estes or however you spell it. but anyway i was just wondering if anyone has ever used this stuff and if it reef safe. (just makeing sure because im not sure if it has silicates in it.)

    It should say on the package weather or not it has silicates in it. IMO if it says "marine" than it's probably safe

    yea i was assuming that it would be but it dosent offer an "ingredients" list and it says safe and non toic (sorry my "echs"(the letter thats missing from toic) button dosent work) but it also dosnet say reef safe so i was just makeing sure. thanks for the quick reply

    It is safe, however it isn't very good. We carry because some people want it for their FW tanks. Besides that, we suggest aragonite and other substrates beneficial to SW tanks.

    Sorry to bring up an old topic
    though is that the reason why it's so cheap? I wanted to start purchasing sand and the price of the Marine sand ($12.99 for 25lbs) vice Carib sea ($36 for 30lbs) however I never heard of it before and wanted to do my research.
