Hello everyone, I had a 120 gallon tank that i broke down about a 2 years ago. I recently got a Used 90 gallon tank that i have been running for about 4 months now. I have a Euro Reef CS6-2+ that has be running in my 30 gallon sump for about 4 weeks and i have no skim-mate and it is producing tiny micro bubbles. These bubbles enter that main tank and cause it to appear very cloudy (milky like). On my old 120 gallon set up this never happened and I'm using the same sump and same skimmer. I took a picture of the sump with the skimmer off and a picture of the sump with the skimmer on. You can see how cloudy the water gets.

Does anyone know why my skimmer is doing this?
How do i stop the bubbles?
Is it time for a new pump?
Is it time for a new skimmer?
is it possible that the skimmer is still breaking in after a month?

Thanks in advance for the help,
    Chris

Your bubbles do not look quite right. Have you taken apart your venturi and cleaned it. I want to say that your venturi may be partially blocked. This will allow air in, but not enough, creating microbubbles. Sometimes I get salt buildup in my air line. I can stick my finger over the end of the air line for a sec or two, and when I release it, it will start sucking in more air than it was.

Brake in period since you did not use the skimmer for so long. It has to re-coat it self.

Any one +1 one that ?

You really don't want to move the sponge higher than the output tube. It will clog with debris over time and cause your internal water to rise.

What does your impeller look like?

Kind of what I was thinking though is to raise the water level in the skimmer body???

You don't need to raise the sponge to do that. There is another riser tube inside that one that you can raise.

I am going to have to agree with jonjon on this. You may need to take a toothpick and dig around the venturi to loosen up some of the salt build up. I just had this same problem a few days ago. The airline was clear but the venturi was plugged in an area that was really hard to see. I had to use a flashlight to see where the clog was. Once I got it cleaned out my Euro-Reef RS80 started running like a champ.
