How do you stop so much evaporation from happening. It seems like my sumps get low every other day and require like 1-2 gallons of top off.

I dont have any covers on the tank, should I get some and put them on?

    Thanks!

That's normal. I believe that you should experience about 1 gallon a day evaporation for every 100 gallons you have Total System volume. You should not put covers on since this will cause Co2 buildup.

Make up some RO water in a 5 gallon jug and put it in daily. That's what I do.

There is no leak...I have a 135 gallon tank.
I guess I just have to keep adding to it daily.
What is the absolute best fail safe auto top off. I have an extra RO/DI unit sitting around I can use for it if need be.

What do most people do about top off and evaporation?

That sounds pretty normal unless your tank is very small. You should look into an Auto Top Off system if you have a sump, you can get them for you tank too. I have covers on mine. I made them out of acrylic and drilled some holes in them to help with air flow. I have a few jumpers so I need them on it. I would highly suggest an ATO, it was one of the best things I've added to my tank.

none of my tank is covered and i go through abbout 6 gallons every week. completely normal. but look into getting a ato. mines a simply float valve, but it keeps your salinity the same. if your adding water everyday it will go up and down a little bit depending on how much water you add. plus adding everyday is a pain in the ass

how did you guys do your ATO?
I am not familiar with them at all and would need a good step by step guide to do it.
    Is there one?

Also make sure you not blowing fans across the water, it helps with keeping the heat down in the water but causes evaporation bad. If your a handy DIY person then I would make your own like I did, but if your not good at that stuff then I would buy a unit.
