Lets hear your excuses that you have to use on your wife/hubby in order to buy things for the tank and get away with it =]

Mine is usually the fact that we go into the lfs to buy ro/di water and its under 5 dollars so we cant use our debit card unless we purchase something else (usually a pretty coral I have been eyeballing) lol

    or

Or hunny we really really NEED it... when most of the time its just a want =]

I found myself doing that alot at your age, except I was still stuck on fresh tanks and spent all my money on plants and tetras. Haha.

I have no other half at the moment. It seems as though thats the way to go in this hobby. Unless your other half is a reefer. Then they understand if they arent already spending your hard earned cash on frags themselves. Haha.

i have a 7month old boy who LOVES to sit and drool at my tank, so all i do is bring the wife and kid with me to teh fish store, have her hold him, and he just watches the tanks in amazement, so all i have to do is say its for him :) works, every time!

My GF loves my tank and has her own in our bedroom. I just recently got her to start paying for her own goodies. I think through the years she has come to accept the fact that I will spend a portion of my "play" money on my tank so she just asks what is that for if it is a toy or what a coral is. Lucky me. :)

I got my mantis tank up & running and it loves to come out and show off for the wife, so she has changed her disposition alot, and I can get away with a little bit mroe now that I could before. She now has somewhat of an interest in my tanks.

There is no LFS that carries SW anymore and it leaves me the option of a tank of gas to the nearest stores or ordering online. Since livestock shipping comes out about the same price (or cheaper) as gas I get to use that as an excuse to order online to get 'exactly' what I want, rather than spend the gas money & not find anything that wow's me. On the flipside since we made a trip to St. Louis to the LFS where inwall works at I also get to make a trip up and use the excuse of 'hanging out with one of my 3reef friends that I havent seen in a while'.

I relocated to be with my wife and it was her idea to let me get a tank (I always had one but was without when we moved), and she hated it! She was always complaining, it was never ending. So I slowly started taking her to the LFS when I needed things. Now she loves the tank, even is helping out with it. I always get her a little something when I have to go away for work or anything, and now she asks for things for the tank lol. She has even been talking about an upgrade so she can have the unicorn tang that she has fallen in love with at the LFS. I guess I got lucky lol.

I have recently chilled on my excuses to buy things. I havent bought any corals or fish in 6 months. I have bought quite a bit of equipment in the last few months and am just about to do a major upgrade to the tank. Adding an overflow and sump, new reactors for carbon and bio-pellets, and adding 3 blue LED Reefbrite strips to supplement my T5's. And also a Reefkeeper controller that I won in a raffle thru my club. After all that is installed, I'm sure i'll get bored again, and start coming up with excuses to buy more corals.

One that always works for me (and, in my mind justifying my own expenses) is when I know someone is going to be coming and staying in the future that I need my tank to look good for.

Example: My girlfriends parents are coming to our house for christmas. So I've already started collecting new frags :)
