I guess its possible. But from what I understand the smaller, slightly more colorful one *should* be the male?
I am no fish breeder by any means, so I dont really know. I liked getting the pair because of how attached they are to each other, but I didnt get the pair for high hopes of breeding. But at the same time, if it happens, it would be pretty cool. And they have been "flirting" a lot lately, cleaning rocks, etc., so I wouldnt fully rule it out.
I am feeling much more comfortable now though that its not bloat. I was worried for a while, but other things would be going on if he was sick.

Actually Clowns can change sex at anytime to accommodate their needs. Perhaps the She is actually a he and the he a she? Lol, how confuzzling.
But really you may have ended up with two males and one simply changed. They are born without sex and stay that way until theyre ready to breed. If this has happened then you must be doing something right and more! Its hard to breed clowns in captivity unless you know specifically what ur doing.
Im gonna go with he's just a lil piggy.

I know what you mean about being hermaphroditic. The pair was sold as a mated pair, so I dont know why they would switch. I know it doesnt mean that they are ACTUALLY a mated pair either. Anything is possible.
He was as happy as could be this morning though, so I know it's not bloat ;D
