Any idea on a positive ID for this? Just sold as a red favia.

Looks like Favite of some sort. That's a huge Genus with too many to count individual spicies. Nice piece

Thanks, what is the difference between favite and favia?? Im not sure if it would help but it was sold as a maricultured piece with the tags and everything.

Is it normal not to see feeding or stinging tentacles? I saw one head send out some sweepers one night but thats been it. Does see much of a feeding response either other than when food is on it it forms thick mucous to clump it all together but I havnt seen it pull anything into its mouths.

The polyps on favia have separate, individual walls whereas favities have common, shared wals. Which makes this one a favia.

You'll see the sweepers only at night once the coral is fully adjusted to it's environment and happy.

For whatever reason I lost a favia over the course of 7 months or so. Never saw sweepers and never was able to find it somewhere it liked enough in my tank to thrive. My assumption would be that if the sweepers aren't out at night after it's acclimated something is probably keeping it unhappy. Granted, after the first sentence, I have proven only that my advice probably shouldn't be trusted in this arena....

It has a trumpet coral look to it without the stalk.
