Craig that's not a nassarius snail. I'm not sure what he is. Nassarius snail have little appendages that stick off of them that they use to eat brown algae and detritus. Also, every nassarius snail i've ever seen has a black shell. I can't quite tell if thats his eye or his little appendage i'm seeing. Correct me if i'm wrong.

I am certainly not a snail expert. All my Nassaurius have the appendage you refer to reefman_MC but never a black shell. They all have the same shell coloration and shape as the one pictured above. That picture is from LiveAquaria.com.

OK Craig I just couldn't see the appendage. Sorry if i sounded rude. If the picture is from liveaquaria it definitely is a nassarius. I was just saying that all mine have black shells.

HL14 & reefman_mc, could you two post pics of your snails? One big point that is being missed is there are many different nassaurius snails. I know of two from Florids alone. The pic Craig posted had its appendage sucked up.

Like I said in my other post I'll do my best. The LFS i got mine from had hundreds of nassarius snails. Every single one of his were black too. Maybe it's the company he orders from.

Do you mean whats nassarius snails eat? If so as they're younger they feed mainly on brown algae. When they are older they eat detritus and small amounts of brown algae.
