So I'm finding mixed results. Some say he's dead, others stressed. What's happening? The tube looks like it's in good condition. But the crown fell off, and has been eaten entirely by the CUC. I need some help here, people.

Nearly every featherduster I've had done that at one time or another. Never found an absolute cause, but they all grew a new one and lived on for years.

yeah, I think its a defensive mechanism, like a lizard shedding the tail.

Just make sure there aren't any critters picking at it.

Well the crown was devoured. Gone. But there doesn't appear to be anything bothering the tube itself.

I've had a few feather dusters that lost there tops. We had a coral banded shrimp at the time and think it was messing with the duster & caused it to stress & lose its top. They did come back but eventually didn't make it. But you gotta find out why it did lose the top or it will eventually die.

These are one of my favorite inverts next to RBTAs.

I've had one do the same, but within a week it grew back bigger and prettier.

I also read that they do this to do "make a new home" but I don't know much of it is true.
