Ok, so I picked up an LPS the other day to try stony corals, it's a trumpet which I read are pretty easy, I may also go pick up an Acan today (sale @ LFS, normally $80, now $25) I'm just curious if all the heads need to eat, or just 1 per stalk, it has 3 heads and 2 stalks, I saw 2 eat (1 from each stalk) but I don't think the third did, do I need to feed it, or is it fine since it currently shares a stalk, and I'm ass.u.m(e)ing the 'coral organs' are in the stalks?

Each head is a different animal and needs to be fed. The fleshy part you see on the tip of the skeleton is the bulk of the polyp.

Mix of foods will do; mysis, brine, finely chopped mussels/cockle/chrimp/silversides will all do.

I've got two large colonies of trumpet coral & I've never "target fed" them once but, still they grow & multiply like crazy. I do however dose my tank with phyto & zooplankton though. Between that & them being photosynthetic, I feel that I have my bases covered with them. I would not worry about each head eating unless it was a Sun Coral.

I have not target fed my colonies either, if you can get them fed the fantastic if not don't worry about it they will do fine.

Ok, didn't know plankton made a difference with them, I already dose Phyto for my softs and have pretty good lighting.
