im going to be setting up a 75 gallon mixed reef and was thinking of going skimmerless.Instead I would run an ats and coil denitrator along with mechanical filtration.I know this is against the norm, but ive seen successful tanks out there that run skimmerless for long periods of time.Just looking for everyones thoughts and opinions

As long as proper husbandry is observed you are fine.;)

you need to commit to really good husbandry IMO. Why not use a skimmer?

Like any other mechanical filtration, what a skimmer removes is food for something in your tank (filter feeders, micro-organisms, and most corals absorb DOCs and small particulate detritus for nutrition), so it's not an "absolute necessity" as once thought. The husbandry involved is not a daunting chore, either; find what works for your tank and stick with it.

Personally, I'd skip on the coil denitrator, as well. From what I've read, they don't seem to do much for the majority that have tried them. Furthermore, if the ATS is set up and maintained properly, you really won't need anything else for removing nitrates or phosphates.
