I finally ordered a spectapure rodi and I can't wait to receive it and get it up and running. Had a question though...

I started my tank with costco's kirkland ro drinking water and up until now have toped off with it, was this a bad idea to have done this the whole time?

My tank has been running for over a year now with flourishing corals and healthy fish but I off and on have had algae problems even though I am consistant on my water changes (I do these with my lfs's saltwater) and my nitrate levels have always been under 20ppm.

Now that I am switching to strictly rodi should these problems go away with time and continued consistant water changes?

    Thanks,
    Jason.

Many bottled RO drinking waters are remineralized meaning they treat it with RO then add specific minerals to it to make it taste good. The Costco water may not be remineralized but I don't remember what the label says.

Many things in water are cumulative and will never go completely away no matter how many water changes you do but you remember the old adage, "The solution to pollution is dilution". The more water changes you do the lower the concentrations will become, up to a point. Some things like copper get into the pores of the rock but that is probably not an issue with bottled water.

great choice on unit, I have a SpectraPure 90gpd that I love, was my first unit also. My tank looks 10x better since I started using RO/DI, enjoy it!

I read the label, it does have elements added:
Purified water, potassium bicarbonate, sodium bicarb, calcium citrate, sodium chloride, magnesium oxide. From most to least.

Hopefully none of these have permenant affects after switching to RODI.

    Thanks AZ.

You should be fine with those elements. Usually they are added as trace elements. Some reefers argue that "clean" tap water helps corals grow since they have minerals in the water that RO/DI does not have. Personally, I'd never risk using treated tap water, but I don't live in an area known for the best tap. It's not bad, but not great either. My TDS out of the faucet is 167ppm.

So I got my rodi today!!! I am outside running it for the first time and doing the flow adjustments..

Anyway I'm watching the "IN" TDS meter and its only reading 6 ppm consistantly... is there something wrong? Or is this just some darn good water?
