Okay late this next month I get an additional 250.00 plus what I have saved. So it is a go for t-5's. I have been looking at the 6 bulb set but can also afford the 8 bulb set. It will also fit the tank. What would be the downside of having 8 t-5's over a 55 if any?
Would the difference in the 6 or the 8 be that great?
Thnx I FINALLY GOT IT.....(and my phone is off the hook);D

    Congratulations Danny

the only downside IMO is the additional heat that will be generated
I have 6 x 80 watts over my 70 and have been told by many , Im good for anything in top 3rd of tank (sps/ clams included although clams are not on my shopping list)

The only downside I could think of is electricity. T5's really dont generate much heat, the coolest bulbs of all by far (barring LED's of course).
If you can, get the 8 bulb, and be just about limitless.

Yeah, if you can afford the 8 bulb fixture then go for it. It's still not as bright as the sun;) what bulb combo are you going to do?

The thing with 8 bulb units is that they are usually over 12 inches wide, so may overhang your 55 gal.

6500K is for refugiums or planted tanks. Great for growing algae and plants. You most definitely do not want those above your reef ;)
