Good to see someone else has them also. I thought that the person that had the rock before me attached it with fiberglass,

Well if it's mod to higher flow, your parameters are all good, I will assume no one is eating it/picking at it.

The fiberglass substance is called Sclerites, a structural support system. This was a cool thread.

    Coral Sclerites

So did it close up after you moved it up towards the light to higher flow?

According to The Reef Aquarium Volumn I and II. When leathers wax over for extended periods of time they may be UV burnt. I would not be concerned really but it sounds like it crumbled at the base when you move it a little. Some photoshock it should get over, but it should not be falling apart. Question is dip, or move down, or leave.

But this is the first time I moved it - it was doing great for two months then did it's hibernation for two weeks opened up again and was fine then now it's done it again - but this time I thought I would move it to higher flow - then I noticed all the fiberglass type stuff come out.
