I'm in the process of putting together my first salt water tank and wanted to know if these lights would be good enough for most soft corals. I have had a hard time finding the actual specs on them. I bought the 30" for my standard 29 gallon tank. I bought the version that are equipped with a dual 7,000k LED combo, 10,000k + actinic combo.

    From the Finnex website-

The Ray II comes in different lengths as well as Dual High Output LED combinations. Users have the options of a 16", 18", and 24" fixture to meet their aquarium needs. Models are either equipped with a Dual 7,000k + 10,000k LED combo, 10,000k + Actinic combo, or Dual 450~465nm High Intensive LED strips.
Ray II: Ultra Slim High Output LEDs
I don't know who is running Finnex but specs for the fixture would be nice.::)
Doesn't say how many leds but they are made by epistar. The website does not even list a 30"fixture.
I would avoid this company like the plague.

Do you think these will get the job done. A friend of mine is also going to give me a rose BTA after I have it running for a while and I don't want to kill it.

Unfortunately without knowing how many led's,wattage, spectrum it is impossible to answer your question. You can try and contact Finnex through the website I linked and ask them. IME when they can't even tell you the basics of there own fixture I would try to return them and use a better company.;)
If that is not an option then hopefully Finnex can help you or someone else who is familiar with them will chime in.

Probably going to keep them and add another one that's all day lights if needed. The price is good and they look great in the tank (no water yet).
Thanks for the input and checking up on it.

Price and look are not what matters to a coral, a good spectrum and PAR is what is.

    Exactly, and Finnex has neither.

Maybe just fish and some mushrooms to start then. If I fall for the hobby the way I think I'm going to, I'll upgrade. Thanks for the brutal honesty.

I'm convinced. Did some more research and think I'm going to go with the photon 16 from reefbreeders.com. Seems like good quality fixture for a beginner. Maybe keep the Finnex as a back-up.
