Actually in your post mirosh you did say you made sure tank was fully cycled before adding the fish. Sincerely I believe you. However you were quick to point out ammonia spike after the fishes died. And skimmer problems. Perhaps you could also try toxic sources in the tank? The speculations go on and on.

Could it be that the decaying fish was the source of ammonia? I mean were you testing the water daily since you placed the fish or did you only test before placing the fish (and assumed "it's fully cycled") and after you saw them dead ("huge ammonia spike!").

I have no business to berate you. But neither am I into the "oh I can be so nice to everyone! smile! good morning! hello!" when I can do better. This for me is not a popularity contest.

Bottomline, you need to quaratine to know if the fish is so stressed it will not survive. Or if it harbours diseases. Or if it seems ok but will die because the source was cyanide caught. And you need patience more than any thing else.

Don't believe me (or anyone else) right away. Study. Research.

I hope you succeed in keeping marine creatures someday. My aim and motivation/interest ---- less loss of marine life, the better.

I appreciate the concern...I am not actually sure what your question is though!?!?

I wasnt sure that my tank had been fully cycled, thats where the problem came in. And I never said that the protein skimmer wasnt working...it seems to be doing a fine job! I was just curious if I should shut it off to aid in the new cycling process.

After I saw the fish dead is when I checked and saw a huge ammonia spike...but that was just overnight! One night after fish were added it was fine (but ammonia was somewhat increasing...not 0ppm)..next morning, dead fish and huge ammonia (8ppm)!!!!!!!

    Mark,

Leave your skimmer running, it will help the situation by picking up any organic material in the water column.

I would also run some carbon in the whisper filter to help remove any "other" toxins that may have been released.
