Well I know that most of you have probably read and replied to many of these types of threads but I would really appreciate it if you could respond to this one so I could have all of the correct information I need for my setup. I will be starting a 30 gallon reef tank in the next few weeks and I am in need of some advice. I have found a lot of websites that have a lot of conflicting instructions and I was wondering if you could point me in the correct direction.

Thanks! I was reading those while you posted this, very helpful. I was wondering if someone could post a check list of things I need (my tank is a 30 gallon) . Right now I have my heater from my freshwater tank and some other things. I know I need to get a new filter and lighting system and a skimmer. Am I missing anything?

Hi and welcome to the forum. A 30 gallon is a perfect jumping off point, its what I started on and had great success..
Here is a link to my old 30 gallon build thread, maybe you can get some ideas from it on what you would like to do with your tank.

An important thing is have you considered the use of a sump? They are a wonderful way to improve your system in terms of aesthetics and capabilities. That would be the number 1 thing I would recommend to anyone starting out in saltwater.

I have considered it but I am not planning on putting my tank on a stand as it will be on my dresser.
