I got my first ever tang yesterday. Yellow tang. Apperently it had some ick on it so I just got it for free from LFS that i go alot.

Any question on how to get rid of the icks? also its not eating flake food, any question what it eats? It's around 5 incher, swimming fine and picking on at rocks or sand once in awhile

dried seaweed, some people have luck with broccoli. Hope you put it in a QT not in your DT with other fish.

This is a very debated topic and results are usually less than desirable. You should really look for past threads.

Some people try malifix or something like that. I once had luck with dropping my SG to 1.21, turning tank heat up to about 83 and drastically reducing lights to a couple hours a day. two weeks later the ick was gone.

Some people try fresh water dips where you put the fish into fresh water for a minute or so but I tried this without success and all it seems to do is stress the fish more.

All I can say is in the future do not bother even if they are free. If you have it in you DT with other fish take it out and bring it back to the lfs who really should never have given it to you. You are only putting your other fish at risk.

Garlic soaked foods. Seaweed a must. If you have no qt tank for now get them healthy enough with proper diet to fight it for now. And work on getting qt tank soon and go fishless for 8-12 weeks to rid dt of ich. It seems like a while. But the patience pays off.

Ich is a curable disease. Qt tanks are relatively cheap setups. Personally I would do the qt setup seeing as how you've already added it to your dt tank. This will rid your dt tank of the disease. And you will be able to keep your new fish. And for the future you will already then have a qt tank to do a better intro to your dt tank.

    That's my opinion.

I agree it is curable and successful with hardier fish but the majority of cases I have seen people try to cure end unsuccessfully.

I am not trying to discourage you but the last thing you should do is put a fish with a known case of ich into a DT tank especially if you have other fish in it.

Personally I would bring it back but it is your tank and I am not trying to tell you how to run it just giving some advice.

We all have different opinions and that is what makes 3reef so good.
