What should I do to my tank instead of buying more fish?

Figure you what is killing your past fish and correct it. Would be the first step.

Get Test kits and ensure your Ammonia, Nitrite levels are 0

Perform water changes to remove any possible problem that is not typically tested for, run Carbon to remove anything else.
Add a larger clean up crew the deal with waste.

Then after a couple of weeks add a fish

I would check for copper also. Where did the dry rock come from?

"Could it be this snail that my lfs said was alive but was really dead? I put him in my tank and he didn't move at all. Or my friend gave me this other snail that always fell over and couldn't get back up, he was still alive though?"
Snail don't like ammonia either. They will wonder around "drunk" as the ammonia kills them.

Just slow down, buy more live rock, and a nice skimmer.

The tests that you will need are for ammonia, pH, nitrite, and nitrate. Hopefully you have more than just that one LFS because it sounds like all he is interested in is selling stuff and not trying to educate you while you are asking about livestock.

I don't know that I'd recommend more water changes? If water changes have been performed regularly on a new tank, it's probable that the initial cycle was stalled and that the tank still needs to complete its full cycle which will not happen if more water changes are done at this time.

What kind of water are you using... RO/DI or tap water?

The dryed rock came from my lfs.

I just use tap water that I had tested and they said that all of our systems in my house is taking out all the metals and sudiments out of the water.

What should I consist in my clean up crew?

I just changed 15 gallons of water yeterday and my ammonia really didn't go down. What is that?

.5 Ammonia? My test kit schematic shows it to be still extremely toxic to fish.

I recommend you add NitroMax to the tank, it has worked wonderfully to get the tank jump started. I would also get a mechanical filter like a wet/dry system with a skimmer if you're thinking of FOWLR. Or, you can make that sump into a better filter than that penguin.

    Listen to BirdLady. :)

Also, BirdLady was right about the decayed rock, your introducing nothing but waste from those rocks. Take them out and brush the dead bacteria and corraline with Kent's coral dip or the other one I can't remember, it comes with a brush head to brush off the bacteria. The decay may shoot up nitrates??
