look into wrasses perhaps, fairly small, often brightly colored and more elongated body styles than that of your current fish.

Oohhh, no, I did not mean how they interacted with each other. I am not talking water quality either. Modern technology has taken care of that. I am talking about oxygen dissolution pure and simple. That is what the guidelines are set against. You can bump it in your favor a little bit by maximizing surface water agitation, using airstones in your sump and keeping a lower SG, but in the end, it's all about the fish being able to breath. FW is 1:1 because more O2 dissolution is greater by comparison (three fold).

I have a maroon clown that will get to 7" eventually. Beautiful fish. Mean temperment. Go anywhere near the anenome and it will take your finger off (or try.....it's little).

I too was talking about oxygen. A 5 inch fish that stays in one burrow all day is not going to use as much oxygen as a 5 inch fish that is a very active swimmer. Protein skimmers add a lot of oxygen to the water the water is greatly oxygenated when it enters the wet/dry. Also, pretty much the entire surface is agitated on my tank. I think I will run out of bioload or territory before I run out of oxygen.

I'm now considering finishing up with a 6 line wrasse and a couple chalk bass.

Take a look at this fish. It is out in the morning and disappears at about 4PM. He likes to play with misc things on the bottom of the tank. It is called a red coris wrasse. I had been looking at a juvenile (looks like a long pseuo-clown fish) for the longest time. I gave up when I saw an adult for sale. It is a prettiest (please forgive me for using that adjective) fish I have ever seen.

I cannot remember what size your tank is. I would not put this in anything less than a 90gallon.
