Stress Coat is not recommend for reef tanks & if used you must turn off your skimmer for a fews days or so... If not, your skimmer will remove it from the water.

Good point on turning off the skimmer b/c depending on the size, it can get sucked out almost as fast as you put it in. They make a marine stress coat too although I have used both on my reef tanks before. However, this is just a band aid treatment. Finding the source of the problem is key.

Thank you everyone for your imput, he seems to do better now, I really dont see anything on the sides anymore.I was wondering about what you guys are saying about turning off my skimmer because I feed marine snow twice a week for my corals. Is the skimmer just taking out what I put in, should I turn it off for a day when im putting marine snow in my tank? My skimmer is not the best its the SeaClone 100, I hear alot of bad things about this skimmer but it seems to pull alot of stuff out of my tank. Thanks again I could not have started a reef tank without all your imput.

I'd turn it off for a couple of hours when putting in Marine Snow.

The Seaclone 100 is not the best skimmer, but it's not completely worthless either. I used to have one on my 38g, but I upgraded to an Aqua C Remora. The Remora pulls out 2-3 times as much "gunk" as the Seaclone ever did, but I still have the Seaclone. It's on my 20g tank and working fine. On a small tank, like my 20g, it does a perfectly acceptable job. I'd rather run a Seaclone, than no skimmer, as even a poor skimmer is better than nothing. Depending on the size of your tank, and stocking level, you may want to save up and get a "better" skimmer. But for now, I'd keep on using it without any worries.

    Hi Everyone,

I am not sure if this might be helpful. But I recently found out that goldfish can also turn black on their scales, when the ammonia gets too high. It is called ammonia damage. Maybe your ammonia is out of whack. Water changes makes them normal in a few weeks, or so.
