Okay don't want to turn this into a personal blog so this will be the last update, unless something really mindblowing happens. Hopefully soemone finds the anecdotal info useful. By the way Nigthstick can you provide any additional detail about your FTS feeding habits? Have they gone after your corals at all? How is the snail/gorg relationship going?

For myself, It has been a month since adding the FTS. It doesn't so much consume the gorg mat completely as much as it just grazes. Some of the gorg grows back near the grazed area but most of the mat dies back where the snail has fed. As johnmaloney pointed out its pretty indescriminate where is chooses to graze. Originally I had two snails but one has disappeared so I have to assume it died. I've noticed an area about one square inch gets eaten every two days or so, which is about the rate I was hoping for. However I'm afraid the decomposition of the unconsumed portion of the gorg mat that dies after the snail has grazed will uneccesarily load the tank with waste. So this may not be the the ideally harmonious solution I originally hoped for. But there hasn't been any spikes in any of the usual indicators so I'm still optimistic this was a good idea. One more thing to mention, the snail hangs out on a high point on the glass, rather than on the gorg, only coming down to feed mostly at night; I'm not sure why. Could be normal, or could be that its being harassed by a critter (such as peppermint shrimp or algea-eating crab) or my percula, who has kind of "claimed" the gorg as a rough surrogate anemone. Cheers
