When I had fish I would get small patches of cyano bacteria in my sand and I've been told on numerous occasions my issue is flow. Currently I do not have any fish as ICH wiped them out about three or four weeks ago. So anyway I am currently running an Evo 1400 and an MJ 1200 kitty corner to one another on opposite sides of the tank and I'm trying to get an Evo 750 running as well to help with the problem. Now the cyano isn't an issue but I know when I get fish in there again it probably will be. Right now the issue is my corals. I've put the 750 on the back glass and moved it all the way to the left of the tank and in the middle. I've pointed it up so it breaks water and I've also just pointed it straight at the glass. Regardless, my elegance does not like that power head being on. Also my button polyp didn't seem to like it either, that was just yesterday though. I'm beginning to think that my elegance just may not have a place in there but if anyone could help me it'd be great b/c I wanna get a hammer coral and I'm thinking that may have the same issue. Also, I love the elegance.

Are there any nooks or spots around the rock work that receive a lower flow that you can put the Elegance in? I have to put my hammer in the corner of a few rocks in order to slow the flow it receives.

Try sticking the 750 on the side glass and do the same on the opposite side with the 1400. Point them at each other across the top of the water. That should produce more turbulence rather than direct flow.

As for the Maxi-jet I would take that out. IME the flow they produce is too strong and direct.

Cyanobacteria is a water quality problem not a flow problem. Flow may keep it in suspension but it does not eliminate the issue.
Do you have a refugium with macroalgaes or a reactor with GFO in it to reduce phosphates and silicates? Do you use RO/DI water and a good salt mix and do regular water changes and maintenance?

Funny story clonefarmer. I actually did exactly what you suggested the other night except I have the 750 pointed up a little more breaking the surface, it looks much better but still not where it should be.

As for desertrat, I don't have room for a fuge or RO/DI unit. I've never.had issues with water quality until I moved my tank and even then the only thing that's been high is nitrates. I recently got some carbon that I have sitting in the sump that I've been told should help with that. I change ten gallons every week and I went on vacation for two sports when I got back, last week I did fifteen gallons
