Trader Joe's actually sells striper fillets. Pretty good to. Grill them up with a little lime juice and olive oil ;)

Looks like I gotta make a trip to TJ's tomorrow. I've had a hankering for fish, though I don't think I'll eat in front of the tank

Trader Joe's is got a pretty good selection of fish actually. All pretty good too. It's nice having it around now that I don't live anywhere near the water ;)

I was talking to a local DNR dude last year up north that said we have some of the highest mercury/lead/metal count in our waters. VHS has spread to just about every pond and lake alike, making the fish just plain unhealthy to eat, especially for a pregnant woman. I don't know if that is 100% accurate, but he is part of the DNR so I trust him more than the average joe.

Same here. Pyramid Lake is close, but it's alkalinity is so freaking high the fish do not taste good. Lahontan has really high mercury and the fish aren't really safe to eat. We pretty much only have the Truckee to harvest from, but trout gets real old after a while

all of our fish are safe the only real issue we're having is a plague like outbreak of zebra muscles which are causing our shad populations to die off so far the only thing that the dept of wildlife has figured out is to increase blue cat populations since they will eat the zebra muscles

That seems to be going on everywhere. I know when we cross the boarder to California with our boats they will actually inspect them for mussels and the checkpoint. I was just watching a show on the Hoover Dam, and I guess they have had to increase maintenance three fold due to all the zebra mussels getting into the pipes, to the point where they can actually cause clogs.
