My Foxface has been going up to the surface, seems to be sucking in air and letting bubbles out. He/she has been doing this every once and a while the last few days and did it for a couple days a week or so ago. None of the other fish are doing it. I wonder if it's an oxygenation problem but I don't see how.

Livestock: Foxface, Maroon Clown, Sixline, Wrasse, Royal Gramma Basslet, Cleaner Shrimp - about 30 shails & red leg hermits.

    Hardware: 75gal, Proclear 100 wet/dry, Proclear 150 skimmer, (2) Rio 2500's, Koralia 1, Maxijet 1200 & modded Maxijet 1200.

Equipment is clean and has been working fine. (I'm working on a fuge so i can toss the wet/dry.)

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

Your fish is bored :) I've had tangs and rabbit fish do the same thing and I'm pretty sure that there is no reason for them to do it besides sheer boredom :D

My foxface does that every few days, I think its his normal behavior- it doesn't seem to be hurting him in any way. Besides, making bubbles is fun!;)

My FF did the same thing, he would go to the waters surface and "suck air", making a chompping sound. Then swim downward and bubbles would come out. I dont know if its normal or not, maybe he has something in his gills. Maybe by passing air through his gills, he scratches an ich so to speak. Luna

My Foxface was an odd ball. They are known for stuff like that. I wouldn't sweat it.

Thanks everyone, it really does seem like he's playing. He's a fish with an odd personality anyways. He thinks he's a sixline actually...

saltwater fish get bored, big puffers can entertain themselves buy spitting a stream of water out the top of the tank. its alot of water, sometimes they used the technique to catch crustaceans in the sand
