hi guys! I have been doing a lot of reading regarding fish acclimation and the freshwater dip topic seems to be quite controversial. Personally, it sounds like fish torture to me. Is this procedure recommended? If so, what are the benefits of doing this? Thanks again for your info...

in a nut shell.you dip the fish in fresh water until it starts to show signs of stress, breathing funny and starting to go sideways.parasites on the fish will be dead or let go by then do to osmotic shock, before the fish will ,and you return the fish, parasite free back to the tank.

"...One of the simplest and fastest ways to reduce and eliminate the numbers of all types of ich organisms, as well as flukes and lice that are parasitic on saltwater fishes is to give them a quick freshwater dip or bath. This method of hyposalinity is very effective, takes little time to prepare for, and is strongly recommended as the first step in treating ich diseased fish prior to placing them into a QT for long term treatment with the proper medication for what ails them..."
