How do i do a fresh water dip, and how long for. I believe i am dealing with marine velvet or ick.
does the freshwater need to be same temperature as display or lower or higher?

Make sure you get a buffer to raise your pH to the same level. I've only tried a FW dip once and it was when I first started keeping fish. I didn't know any better and tossed a clown into some de-chlorinated tap water without buffering it. That clown fell to the bottom of the bag instantly, almost like a rock even, and didn't move. Needless to say the poor thing died hours later after I took it out right away. It wasn't until several weeks later that I found out what went wrong.

don't do fresh water dips.. just to kill the parasites.. it's not worth putting fish through that kind of stress... please restrain from doing so..

do not ever dip your fish in fresh water for ANY reason, under ANY parameters... EVER. 99% of the time you will cause additional stress for your fish. DO NOT DIP YOUR FISH, THEY WILL DIE. Please see my (recently closed) rant on poor practices that many here use, that then result in dead livestock.

Sadly some decided it was a personal attack (maybe they use these practices?). Regardless there is no scientifically valid reason to dip your fish in fresh water. Thus it falls under statement 3. There is no higher diety out minding the ocean reefs with a bucket of fresh water and a box full of chemicals to treat the fish. Thus they should be used sparingly.

freshwater dipping will not kill your fish if done correctly.
I do not believe in doing it anymore but I had done this with a few fish in the past and my tang is still kicking 2 years later.
comparing our fish tanks to the ocean is a poor analogy.
