Has anyone else ever freshwater dipped SPS corals specifically Montipora? I though if I had nudis it might help.

It will not be a good idea to do a freshwater dip on SPS. I did that originally with my MEN and I was told after I did it that it was a bad idea by others on this forumn.

If it is monti eating nudis there is not a whole lot you can do. The biggest problem with them is their eggs. The eggs are just about undestroyable.

I did do a lugols dip on mine and it bought me some time. If you caught them early enough maybe a lugols dip will be enough

HOWEVER, what you will have to do is to remove all monti from your tank, treat them with lugols, place them in a QT tank and leave them there for at least 6 weeks. You would most likely need to treat the monti a couple times during the qt. Make sure the tank is barebottom...no sand, no rocks etc. You will have to do frequent water changes

You will not be able to place any type of monti back in your display tank for at least 6 weeks to starve the eggs and nudi out. I actually waited 6 months before I risked placing anything back in my tank

There is some good things about MEN and some bad things about MEN. The good thing is that it will ONLY eat monti..will not attack other corals. The BAD thing is that these things are almost IMPOSSIBLE to destroy and can live without any food for at least 6 weeks...sometimes longer. I have heard of some having a monti free tank for months and then placing a new monti back in that had no nudi and them still having some in their tank and loosing that piece. That is why I waited 6 months.

    freshwater dipping frightens me.
its not a normal way to cure anything thats meant to be a marine animal. some have stated that yes they have success. many others have not. it can reduce the life of these animals from the strong impact the dipping has on them. the stress is pretty great i'm sure.
i stick with an UV sterilizer. QT tanks and most importantly i hope for the best.

QT it for at least a month. You should always QT stuff before putting it in the display tank. That doesn't mean you should be treating it for what it doesn't have (watching idiots dose healthy fish for ICH, and then having the fish get ICH the second they hit the DT because they stressed it is funny) (sad for the fish tho).

I don't know where this FW dipping garbage came from, but stop doing it.

BTW my uncle fresh water dipped a clown fish once, it can now fly, true story!

UV sterilizer will do nothing for MEN (Monti Eating Nudi) However I do run UV on all my tanks.

If you think your leather is upseting it...then try to remove them and see how they do. Dont add anything else in your tank.

I still think you should QT your montis and treat them. Can do a rinse with Coral Revive Coral Cleaner for Reef Aquariums: Julian Sprung's Two Little Fishies ReVive Coral Cleaner
before you place them in the QT tank. Sometimes you can actually release the monti from the coral and can see them however that will not be the end of it....will still need to QT. I rinse all my new corals with this when I get them. Simply pull a gallon or two of the saltwater into a bucket, add the rinse, and then swish the coral around for several minutes. You will see on the bottom of the bucket all sort of critters.

Why not use a coral dip medication instead? FW will be too stressful on the coral itself.
