Would it be possible to set up an Algae turf scrubber while currently running a fuge with cheato? Would the cheato eventually die because of lost nutrients?

Im asking because an ATS is really striking interest with me, but I like my fuge alot and my pods really flock to my cheato, I swear they breed in it..

Thanks for the help guys. :)

they do breed in your chaeto...a lot of people who have tried both found that the chaeto did just as well as before the ATS came in there was a thread on it on their forum

both nitrates and phosphates are undetectable which is a great sign. My cheato grows very fast. It can double size in about 1 1/2 weeks.
My bioload is low, I have 3 fish(2 True Percula, 1 Royal Gramma) in about 45 total gallon system with about 50-55lbs of LR.
I am just interested in the ATS system, but dont want to jeopardize my fuge and cheato if I run one.

I have mangroves that should be here wed. via reefcleaners. I hear they are great. What light are you running over them. I have a 20W compact fluorescent spot light, which grows cheato like crazy.

If you run a scrubber the way that is recommended, the cheato etc will die out. So since you already have low nutrients with your current setup (and you probably want the larger pods), you are better off without a scrubber.

Now if you were setting up from scratch, you could do a scrubber along with some rock rubble in the fuge. Thus would have lower nutrients and large pods too, and would have clearer water since you are not breaking apart macros in the sytem water.
