i have a refugium hooked up in a seperate tank from my sump. its fed by the return line to the tank and then dumps back into the sump through a bulk head and tubing.
i usually rotate the cheato about once a week to 2 weeks to let the bottom get some light.
i noticed this morning it looks like my light is burning the top layer of it, and there was a bunch of dried up bubbles and crap sitting on top like a layer of film about a 1/4 inch thick.
my light is a 6500k spiral bulb from walmart.
ill attach a pic of the fuge, maybe the light is to close? its sitting directly on top of eggcrate about 2 inches from the top of the water. i have it timed opposite from my main lights
this is before all the crud started building up.

looks like culupra to me...but I could be wrong ...move the light up a bit...experiment. I do not move my cheato around..I just let the fuge be...it needs very little flow and less agitation. jmo....But try moving the light further away.. nice picture..

seems to me that should be ok, but you may want to try raising it another 2 inches for next week and see if it still burns it.
who much flow do you have going thru the fuge? you may need to flip it over more often than you are to prevent the dried up bubbles and crap.

I've had the outer edges of my chaeto turn whitish before, too. I think it was dying at the time. Over time it began to grow again, but the event significantly slowed down the growth for awhile. I'm not sure what the culprit was.

Funny, your pic almost looks like it's taken inside a refrigerator. :)

no, dont clean it! the fuge is where you want all that gunk, not in your display tank, it's doing what it's supposed to.
